A Gothic parish church which was extended in the 19th century has always been the religious heart of the village. With the creation of the Xanten North Lake, Vynen became a paradise for water-sports enthusiasts.
But there has always been a sense of attachment to water and boating in Vynen.
The first document containing the name Vynen dates from 1167. In those days fishing and farming were the essence of life.
One reminder of times gone by is the Haus Haag estate, today one of the last agricultural businesses in Vynen.
Today, Vynen remains a lively place thanks to its many societies and the numerous new members of the community who have swapped the stress of life in the city for some rural tranquility.
